In early 2022, Tyson was diagnosed with Ewing’s sarcoma, followed by a diagnosis of secondary AML leukemia. Diagnosed in his late teens, he was at the older end of pediatric medicine and witnessed firsthand the struggles faced by young patients and their families. He connected with children in cribs and baby walkers, young kids and teens undergoing treatment, and parents doing everything they could to remain strong for their children. Their resilience inspired Tyson to dream of helping families facing similar hardships.
Throughout every challenge, Tyson exemplified what it truly means to be unbreakable.
Tyson Harjit Duncan (September 24, 2000 – June 26, 2024) was a bright, active, and compassionate young man who filled every day with energy and kindness. He grew up in Davis, California, attending the Davis and Sacramento Waldorf schools, and earned his associate degree from Sacramento City College before being accepted to the University of California to continue his studies. Tyson loved sports, travel, and spending time with friends and family. He was funny, artistic, respectful, and deeply loyal.
Tyson initially had Ewing’s Sarcoma (pediatric bone cancer) in his left tibia, which required a long intense, chemotherapy regime and surgery to replace about 5.5″ with a donor bone. He was on crutches the rest of his life. He beat his first cancer (Ewing’s) and rang the bell, celebrating for a short time before a second diagnosis of Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) blood cancer. He continued to fight with grace, dignity, and bravery.
